Madeleine Shin
Executive Director, Global Head of External Communications and Media
Bio:
Madeleine Shin has a diverse, 17-year background in healthcare communications and media relations, during which she has managed media, messaging and crisis response for powerful healthcare brands, biotech companies, professional associations and federal lawmakers. Madeleine currently serves as Executive Director, Global Head of External Communications and Media at Biogen.
Prior to Biogen, Madeleine served as US Health Media Lead for Weber Shandwick, overseeing a team of 30 healthcare media specialists across the US. In this role, she also served as an executive media trainer for her clients, coaching individuals from pharma executives, physicians and celebrities – like Ken Jeong, Tan Fance and Jason Alexander on presentation and media presence.
During her time at Weber Shandwick, Madeleine led media relations strategy for pharma and biotech brands, including Novartis, Lilly, Biogen, and Vertex. She has also engaged in three in-house secondments supporting the Novartis US External Corporate Engagement Team.
Prior to Weber Shandwick, Madeleine led earned media and executive visibility in communications roles at Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons. She also served as Press Secretary for a pro-healthcare reform member of the U.S. House of Representatives during the highly politicized 2009/10 healthcare reform debate.
Madeleine graduated Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Maryland, College Park, with a Bachelor’s degree in Government and Politics. She was also a member of the University’s varsity women’s golf team.
