Hunter Smith

Bio:

Hunter Smith is Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Rhythm Pharmaceuticals, where he has served since August 2017. In this role, he has led the company through its initial public offering and multiple capital raises, totaling over $1 billion, while also playing a key part in shaping corporate strategy and enabling the company’s growth and development in rare disease therapeutics. Hunter previously served as interim CEO from March to July 2020, guiding the company during a critical period of FDA submissions and market uncertainty, and continues to be an influential member of the executive leadership team.
With more than 30 years of experience in global finance and management, Hunter’s career spans multiple industries and continents. Prior to joining Rhythm, he held senior finance roles at Celgene Corporation, including Vice President, Finance and CFO of the Inflammation and Immunology Business Unit, where he led the global launch of Otezla® and integration of Receptos, Inc. He also spent 14 years in roles of increasing responsibility at Bunge Limited, including CFO–Asia and Chief Risk Officer. Hunter has served on the boards of Aeglea BioTherapeutics (now Spyre Therapeutics) and Genesee & Wyoming, Inc., bringing extensive governance and leadership expertise. He holds an MBA in Finance from NYU’s Stern School of Business and a BA in History from Northwestern University
